Casement Windows
A casement window is hinged on one side and swings open on a crank or friction stay, opening the entire aperture rather than half of it. The trade is space: something has to give way for the sash to swing, inside or outside the frame line.
What matters about this product
- Full-aperture ventilation.
- The whole window opens, not half — the clearest advantage over a sliding sash.
- Tighter seal when closed.
- A hinged sash compresses against the frame gasket all the way round, which seals better than a sliding sash resting in a track.
- Crank or friction-stay hardware.
- Smooth, geared opening rather than a push-and-latch — pleasant to operate, but another mechanical part to keep lubricated.
- Needs swing clearance.
- Outward-opening sashes need clearance from grills, balcony rails or overhangs; inward-opening sashes need clearance from curtains and furniture inside the room.

- No sliding sash overlap means a larger uninterrupted pane and a cleaner view.

Questions people actually ask
Casement or sliding — which is right for my window?
If full ventilation matters and there's clearance for the sash to swing, casement wins. If the opening is tight against a balcony rail, grill or curtain track, a sliding window is the safer choice since it needs no swing space.
Does an outward-opening casement catch the wind?
In exposed, high-floor locations, yes — a friction stay holds the sash at a set angle, but a strong gust can still put load on the hinge. Ground and mid-floor installations rarely have an issue.
Can it take a mosquito mesh?
Yes, as a separate fixed or hinged mesh panel on the inside, since the casement mechanism itself doesn't have a mesh track the way a 3-track slider does.
Is it more secure than a sliding window?
The full-perimeter seal and multi-point locking option make a casement harder to force than a single-latch slider, which is why it's often specified for ground-floor openings.
